There is a huge need in Central Lancashire for Home-Start’s unique service.
The current economic, social and health inequality crisis across England and in particular across Central Lancashire, is having a major detrimental impact on most individuals, families, and children. Inflation is at its highest rate in 40 years, more people are in debt than ever before, poverty is at an all-time high, health outcomes and school exclusions across Lancashire are amongst the worst in the country, mental health issues are continuously rising, suicide rates are increasing, infant mortality is rising, child development is poor, youth crime figures are rising, and violent crime is getting out of hand.
Central Lancashire comprises of four local authority areas, Preston, Chorley, South Ribble and West Lancashire. Each of these local authority areas have multiple wards that are in the bottom 10% of deprivation according to national statistics.
Within these areas live some of the most poorest families in the country, many of them will have increased health conditions, poor academic attainment outcomes, and according to statistics are likely to die up to 12 years earlier than those living in the more affluent areas within the local authority districts.
Home-Start Central Lancashire receives partial funding from Local councils and applies for additional grants from companies, trusts and foundations to cover our running costs. In addition, we facilitate training programs for other organisations, provide consultancy packages, and organise a varied programme of events. We need around £250,000 this year to continue operating and supporting families. We are hoping to receive around £175,000 from Council contracts, grant funding and consultancy/training for 2022/2023 so we need to find an additional £75k this year.

We need your help
Home-Start Central Lancashire is a local charity which supports families with at least one child under the age of eleven. We train and prepare volunteers to visit parents in their home, supporting them through a range of difficulties. These may include social isolation, anxiety and depression, multiple births, physical illness or disability, bereavement and every day parenting challenges.
We support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children, providing them with the best possible start in life.
Your donation will enable us to support more families with young children.
Thank you.
Every donation, big or small, can make a difference to vulnerable local families. We’d love it if you’d raise funds for us and would love to hear your ideas. Maybe you could gain sponsorship through an activity, hold a quiz night, bungee jump or sit in a bath of beans! Either way, we can’t wait to see the photos!
Local partnerships
Home-Start Central Lancashire is keen to develop partnerships within the Central Lancashire area, to ensure a better future for local children and families. Even small donations or gifts in kind can make a huge difference to us. We are pleased to have received support from a range of organisations, trusts and businesses, to whom we are very grateful.
If you would like to work together with Home-Start Central Lancashire, we would love to hear from you!
Raising funds
Fundraising can be fun and rewarding! We are keen to run events throughout the year, for fundraising and also to increase awareness. By supporting these, companies and organisations have the opportunity to enjoy a positive feeling with their members, staff, customers and people across our area.
There are lots of ways you could help, including:
- Sponsorship of an event we’re running
- Encouraging employee or member fundraising activities
- Choose us as your charity of the year
- Organising an event on behalf of Home-Start Central Lancashire
Home-Start staff are always willing to help and support any fundraising efforts.
Gifts in kind
When companies or organisations donate gifts in kind it saves us money. It means we don’t have to buy certain items that we need, so reducing our running costs.
In kind donations can be large or small and every donation helps.
